I’ve been told that girls aren’t suppose to be romantic.  Which is lucky, because apparently I’m not.  How did I come to this conclusion?  I was helped out by my friends on that one after stating that I very much dislike Valentine’s Day.  I know a ton of people say that, but I really believe it.  Even on Valentine’s Days when I’ve been dating someone and actually got chocolates and flowers…I just don’t think it’s necessary!

Personally, I think that’s what anniversaries are for.  Getting the loved one gifts.  But now we have to give cheesy mushy gifts TWICE a year.  I mean, I know a lot of people who give spouses or significant others presents or notes just whenever they want because they WANT to.  But having another mandatory giving gifts day is silly to me.

So–romantic holiday or money sucking day?  I say money sucking.  I hope i’m not sounding like some bitter woman, because luckily I’m NOT a bitter woman, I just think it’s silly.  I like spending money on people I love and giving them things, but spending ridiculous amounts of money on chocolates and flowers and whatever else just doesn’t seem logical to me.

Again, I don’t want to sounds like a crazy single lady with cats…because i’m NOT…I’m simply putting out there that you can do nice things for people whenever you want.  But, in doing something nice, you can also do something that’s absolutely free!  No need for chocolate, no need for flowers or a huge dinner.  Be creative, do something unique, but free.

There is a special place in my budget for “miscellaneous” purchases, so I suppose you can use that for Valentine’s Day gifts…but my advice is to just not go too crazy with it!

  1. I can completely see how the author would misconstrue a perfectly innocent holiday into a “Money sucker”.. However a more educated individual might see valentines day for what it truly is. It is a day to send a “Valentine” to the “people” (note the plural) we love and care for.

According to The american greeting card association:

The U.S. Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately one billion valentines are sent each year worldwide, making the day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year, behind Christmas.

SO again.. I see how sending 1 billion “I love you’s” to the world could anger the author and force the “money sucker” title to this pure holiday. After all that is exactly what this world DOESN’T need.. more love and affection.. (Scary isn’t it)

Those virtues must seem evil to individuals who have not experienced such feelings or at least had them reciprocated.

Personally I think her animosity is due to the fact that she has no way of sending valentines to her 14 cats.
