Things I look forward to every year:
- Christmas
- Thanksgiving
- 4th of July
- My Birthday
- New Years
- MARCH MADNESS!
That’s right, March Madness is one of those things that just makes me so happy! I love it. Watching those teams go head to head, trying to make it to the sweet sixteen, elite eight, final four, and championship…It’s a beautiful display of athletic competition at it’s best. For me, it FAR outweighs the NBA tournament. There’s more heart, more passion for the game. These kids are in college and playing because they love it-not for millions of dollars a year.
So, my question is, how does March Madness factor into your personal budgeting? As a general rule, I don’t do any kind of gambling. For multiple reasons, really, one of which is that I just can’t seem to willingly give away money to someone I don’t even know! I’m cheap…usually I like to say frugal, but really, I’m cheap-that’s the best word for it.
My point today is to emphasize smart March Madness participation. I know a lot of people who like to create their own betting pools with family and friends, but remember…you have a budget! If you plan on doing that kind of thing, work it into your “miscellaneous” or “entertainment” budget. Make sure it’s a part of your plan and not just an extra expense.
That’s my personal budgeting idea of the day. Enjoy March Madness, I know I will, be be smart with your money!
