Can we learn basic financial principals from the wealthiest man in the world? Lets take a look at the life of Bill Gates, who has a net worth of approx. 40 billion.
Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft, wrote his first computter program, similar to the game tictactoe, at the age of 13. He loved working on computters and was even sometimes excused from math class to pursue his interest. Gates was fascinated by the computter and how it would always perform software code perfectly, saying, “There was just something neat about the machine.” He never claimed a major while at Harvard College but spent most of his time in the computter labs. After his administrators became aware of his programming abilities, Gates wrote the school’s computer program to schedule students in classes. He later stated that “it was hard to tear myself away from a machine at which I could so unambiguously demonstrate success.” His parents consented to his dropping out of college because they knew of his desire to start a company. His business venture, Microsoft, was a huge success.
Bill Gates did not make his money in the most conventional way and not all of us will gain the type of financial success he achieved, but we can learn a great lesson from Bill Gates- when it comes to pursuing a career you must be passionate about it. Find a job that you love, that you are talented at, and that you know how to do- success will occur in your work and in all other aspects of life.
