Short and Sweet

This is going to be pretty short and sweet, but I do have one small thought about finances that I wanted to throw out there.

I do pay most of my bills online. Either they are automatically withdrawn or I get an ebill. The only thing I actually write a check for is my rent. I definitely love not having to remember to pay my bills, but that it just happens. However, one my montly bill comes as an ebill to my email address. Sometimes I pay it off right away and sometimes I like to wait a couple weeks til it’s closer to the due date. Not sure why I do that, but I do… Anyway, this last time I decided to wait a couple of weeks and then pay it. The only problem with that is that I definitely did fine waiting the couple of weeks, but I forgot to submit my payment! And, you guessed it, got slapped with a late fee. Boo. I need to come up with a better system of paying my ebills so I don’t forget.

Again, just a thought.

Inaguration

I watched the inaguration of Obama today on CNN.com. It was fun to see the ceremony and watch a new president be sworn in. The last time a NEW president was sworn in was eight years ago when Bush (obviously) was sworn in and I was 17 years old-a senior in high school. I remember watching it, but I don’t really remember feeling like it was that big of a deal. That was, of course, just because I was in high school and more concerned with how hard practice was going to be or going through plays in my head to make sure I knew them before our big game. But, this inaguration has made me very interested in the political system as a whole. I find it intriguing to see how one man can seem to uplift a country so much as a whole.

While I didn’t actually vote for Obama, I’m still excited for something new. Something to get people involved in their communities and in helping local politics and service projects progress and grow. I don’t agree with all of his political views, but I do appreciate that he has inspired our country to try and be better citizens as a whole.

Hopefully it will be a good change and will surprise skeptics–like me (on a certain level)–and help implement programs and policies that will help our countries financial future-along with other political aspects. Good luck to him and to us!

Statistics

I’m currently getting my masters in Healthcare Administration. I have a statistics class coming up and just realized…i’m actually going to have to USE this in my career! I never would have thought. In college I took stats, and got a good grade, but mostly figured I’d never have to REALLY understand it because I’d never use it. Boy was I wrong. It honestly just hit me that I’ll need to understand stats in my professional career and what a heartbreaker!

Right now I’m in a Finance Management class and, again, never thought I’d need to know any specifics. I have a calculator, I have a good broker who takes care of all my money, I know the basics of what to do and not do in the world of finance. I have a good budget that I stick to and know how to go through my personal finances. I thought that would be enough. But no. Again, back to needing to know specifics of how corporate finances work! I guess it’s really a good thing. The more you know about finances in your profession, the more it can help you in your personal life! I definitely need to keep that in mind.
